What Calgary publishes

The City of Calgary publishes its truck route network as line geometry — 165,808 route segments in the source used here, of which 33,111 are dangerous-goods route segments. The network distinguishes route types and carries restriction and, on some segments, bridge clearance attributes.

How proximity is calculated on this site

For each industrial property, the distance from the property's published reference point to the nearest point on the nearest published route line is calculated. That gives a metre value, the route type, and any published restriction or clearance on that segment.

It is a straight-line, point-to-line measurement in a projected coordinate system. It is arithmetic on published geometry — nothing is inferred, and no routing engine is involved.

What the number does not mean

• Not access. Being 40 m from a truck route says nothing about whether a truck can enter the site, or where the driveway is.
• Not legal routing. The route your vehicle may lawfully take depends on the vehicle, the load, the permits held and the current restrictions in force.
• Not travel time. A straight-line distance is not a drive.
• Not capacity. Bridge clearance on the nearest segment is a published attribute of that segment, not a clearance guarantee for a route.
• Not current. Route networks change. Confirm the current network and any seasonal or construction restriction with The City before planning an operation around it.

Where it is genuinely useful

As a screen. When you are narrowing several hundred candidate buildings to a shortlist, "not near any published truck route" is a meaningful early filter, and "adjacent to a dangerous-goods route" matters if you handle regulated commodities. 4,726 Calgary industrial properties sit within a kilometre of a dangerous-goods route.

If your operation depends on regulated loads, oversize vehicles or specific corridors, treat all of this as a starting screen and get the routing confirmed properly before you commit to a site.
